Breast Asymmetry Correction

Breast asymmetry is a common problem that can have anatomical or developmental causes, or be the result of previous surgery, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. When differences in breast shape, volume, or position are significant, they can affect your figure, clothing choices, and well-being. Asymmetry correction is an individually planned procedure that may involve enlarging one breast, reducing the other, lifting, or a combination of these techniques.

Breast asymmetry correction

Correction of breast asymmetry is a surgical procedure aimed at equalizing the shape, size, and position of the breasts. For some patients, asymmetry is congenital, while for others it develops after pregnancy, breastfeeding, surgical procedures, or injuries. At Luna Clinic, each patient is assessed individually — the treatment plan may involve enlarging one breast, reducing the other, lifting, or combining several techniques to restore body harmony and the patient’s psychological comfort.

Effects of the treatment

The aim of the operation is to achieve symmetry between the breasts in terms of size, shape, and position. The effects are visible immediately after the operation, but a full assessment is possible after about 6 months, when the swelling subsides and the tissues settle. The scars after the procedure are located in the natural folds of the skin or around the areola, and become less visible over time. The effect is permanent, although aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations may affect the future appearance of the breasts.

Preparation for the procedure:

Consultation with a plastic surgeon to determine eligibility, discuss expectations, and plan the procedure

Laboratory tests

Discontinuation of anticoagulants at least 14 days prior to surgery (after consulting a physician)

Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 14 days before the procedure – for better healing.

Close up picture of lips taking hyaluronic acid injections in an aesthetic clinic. Non-surgical treatment to reduce wrinkles and avoid aging. Copy space for titles

The course of the procedure

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually lasts 2 to 3 hours. The surgical technique is selected on an individual basis:

Enlargement of the smaller breast using an implant

Lifting one or both breasts (mastopexy) to align the position of the nipples

Sometimes we use an implant on one side and a lift on the other, depending on the anatomical situation.

After the surgery, we apply a specialized compression bra and dressing. The patient remains in the clinic for 24 hours.

Recovery and post-treatment recommendations:

In the first few days, pain, swelling, and temporary asymmetry are possible—this is natural and will subside over time.

The post-operative bra should be worn for at least 6 weeks.

Avoid movements that raise your arms, lifting, and exertion for at least 4 weeks.

No sunbathing on scars for at least 6 months

After 4–6 weeks, you can start massaging the scars and using preparations that support healing.

Check-ups: 7 days, 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 and 12 months after the procedure

Possible complications and risks:

Hematoma or bleeding requiring drainage

Infection requiring antibiotic therapy

Transient or rarely persistent sensory disturbances in the face or auricle

Hypertrophic or discolored scars – minimized thanks to precise suturing techniques

Asymmetry requiring correction

Prolonged swelling or bruising

Unsatisfactory aesthetic result requiring possible reoperation

At Luna Clinic, we carefully evaluate each patient, and procedures are performed by an experienced surgeon in an operating room setting, which minimizes the risk of complications.
